For most people, pets are more than just animals, they are a member of the family. As such, it is understandable that you would want to make sure your furry friend is well-cared for when you are away for vacation, a business trip, or even a medical issue. At Animal Clinic of Honolulu, we understand your love for your pet. Our veterinarians have gathered a few of the questions that we run into regarding our pet boarding services.
Does my pet need to be vaccinated before boarding?
Since your pet will be exposed to other animals, it is important that he is up-to-date on his vaccinations. Furthermore, we request that your pet receive a wellness checkup before his stay for his own safety as well as that of our other boarders.
What do I need to send with my pet?
There are no requirements for what you send with your pet, but a few things can help during his stay. For example, we recommend sending your pet’s regular food since this can prevent digestive issues. If your pet has a favorite toy or blanket, or he will only sleep on his own bedding, you can send those items along as well. Doing so will help ease any anxiety, prevent sleep issues, and provide a level of comfort.
Is there a veterinarian on-site?
The pets are supervised 24 hours a day, although a veterinarian is not always on-site. However, they are available and can tend to your pet when needed. If an emergency arises, a veterinarian and our caring staff will be there to take care of your pet’s needs.
Does my pet stay locked up the whole time he is there?
If you agree, your pet will have supervised playtime with other boarded animals. Our staff interacts with the animals constantly. We also have a dog walker, so you can rest assured your pet is getting exercised and socialized.
How early do I need to schedule boarding?
While we aim to cater to your needs and will try to fit in last-minute boarders, we cannot guarantee availability due to limited space. We recommend booking with us as soon as you find out that you need to board your animal. The earlier, the better. However, should you face an emergency and need us right away, we encourage you to call. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.
